What communication goals are important to you this year?

How are you going? Are you starting 2026 with clarity and enough space to show up as you want to be seen?

I decided that as part of “showing up” to myself, it was time to declutter in a big way.

To bring a gnu* (seriously, that was me verbally dictating and what appeared on screen) – read “new”, not a large African antelope!), sleekly systematised clean desk ethic into my work.

So I started watching YouTube – some people were even wiping down their workspace every evening after clearing it of clutter!

Time to step up my game…and after quite a lot of hours:

  • piles of files no longer.
  • desk is now clear.
  • damp cloth poised!

The damp cloth idea might not last the month, but it’s on, let’s see.

So, goals.

Do you recoil at the thought right now?

Or are you excited to get into them?

If you do have them, what are your communication goals this year?

Is there anything specific that’s calling you?

  • Maybe you need to give yourself permission to take up space in meetings. To step forwards when you’d typically shrink back.
  • Or perhaps it’s the opposite: to say less. A discipline needing deliberate focus for many of my clients – particularly if they’re a subject matter expert and love to share.

Depending on context, you may need to shift the dial either way.

And one thing I learned a long time ago when I started going much bigger:

Discomfort means I’m growing.

And that’s a lot more important than hiding.

What’s important to you?

*Still a mystery to me how voice dictation can interpret a simple word like “new” and assume I mean “gnu” – why?? It doesn’t make sense at any level! (And no, I haven’t ever mentioned a gnu.)
