Career Elevate Interview Skills

Interviews can be daunting.

Get proven skills, advice and support to make applying for promotion into a senior position, changing career or organisation, easier.

Interviews are considered to be one of the most stressful situations you’ll encounter.

And if you’re planning to continue your rise, you may have to do a lot of them!

How do you effectively demonstrate your personality and competencies in a pressure situation where you’re being judged, and it can make or break the impression others gather about you?

My clients come to me for some or all these reasons:

  1. Self-belief, low/high confidence, imposter syndrome, fear
  2. Memorising, using notes, articulating clearly on the spot
  3. Clarity, time-management, repetition, being concise

Whether you lack confidence – or know in fact that you come across too confidently, overbearing or “too much” – you need practical behavioural, mindset tools and skills.

These sessions are tailored, specific and highly practical. How to manage time, fear, having no notes. We look at anything that’s getting in your way.

In Career Elevate, here are 3 key focus areas:

Effective communication techniques

  • Being succinct. Delivering clear responses that stay on point and aren’t repetitive (unless you want to be).
  • Speaking articulately. We’re articulate in 2 ways: in our mind, then as we speak. Both aspects need to work.
  • Choosing the right words. Precise language that shows your expertise, and makes you sound considered.
  • Composed delivery. Intentional pauses to highlight key ideas and project confidence and control.

Professional and personal presence

  • Sounding confident when you’re anxious. Your system is in overdrive, and you struggle to think clearly.
  • Demonstrating helpful body language. You’re still authentic, with awareness of what your non-verbals say.
  • Showing confidence without arrogance. Much of this is tone, the emotional intent behind your words.
  • Projecting your personality. Conveying your strengths and uniqueness to create a positive impression.

Skills and competencies

  • Adversity skills. How to prepare, and how not to. Giving you tools to feel in control. These are built in, prior.
  • Role-playing. Testing different interview scenarios, used to habituate you to the unexpected in real-time.
  • Thriving without notes or memorising all your responses. How to shift from memorising to conversational.
  • Handling follow-up questions naturally and being able to stay present (which gives you presence).

My background and how it supports you to succeed

The ability to think and speak coherently, get your tone right and your non-verbals working for you while being watched: this is something I’ve personally had to overcome, as well as working with 1000’s of clients with these challenges.

After years of struggling with performance and public speaking anxiety I’ve learned what’s needed to prepare and perform at your best when people are watching you.

Even if that audience is just one interviewer. You know it’s not about the number of people judging you, it’s the fact that you need to perform under pressure, you’re being tested and evaluated in a short amount of time with no ‘redo’ button.
